A Panorama
*Paging the City Trilogy 2

Publication Design
The sequence begins with the exterior of a vacant building wrapped in scaffolding, moves through its hollow structural interior, and ultimately arrives at an emptied rental apartment. Along the way, fragments of voices surface, culling from London local eviction reports and demolition news, spoken by those who once called the emptiness their home. It is a journey of piercing through veils and entering spaces left unseen, replaying voices unheard.

Printed on broadsheet newsprint, this publication unfolds a scene in motion, photographs, remnants, and testimonies laid side by side. Not as evidence, but as residue. When people are absent from architecture, space enters a state of suspension, neither reoccupied nor fully erased. These scaffolded buildings, whether awaiting demolition or redevelopment, serve as silent containers of urban transformation. Meanwhile, the vacated apartment bears the imprint of an individual’s departure from a transient urban life. By tracing these emptied spaces, the project seeks to capture the convergence between the city and the individual in states of transition.

* Paging the City Trilogy

A nongtang, a scaffolded façade, a departing room—Paging the City is my research project developed during the MA Graphic Communication Design course at Central Saint Martins. This publishing trilogy traces disappearing urban spaces across Shanghai and London through the lens of personal and collective memory. Each publication unfolds as a spatial narrative: large-format folds, horizontal sequencing, and accordion structures translate emotional and spatial experiences of dwelling, departure, and transformation into editorial form. The project reflects the perspective of temporary residents navigating shifting urban conditions, and offers attentive possibilities for design to engage more meaningfully with local contexts.
