The Fourth Plinth
Bookmark Design
A bookmark is the “pause button” for reading physical books. More than just a piece of paper, it serves as a medium for dialogue between the reader and the content. One & Other documents artist Antony Gormley’s performance at the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square, London, where for 100 days, 24 hours a day, volunteers each took turns occupying the plinth for one hour. I designed a bookmark for this book that can be folded to form a small corner of the square. By “occupying” space within the book, the bookmark creates a conceptual echo of the act of occupying the plinth.
